Vietnam's Health Ministry has called for a ban on e-cigarettes, citing a lack of legal regulations for new tobacco products. The report highlights the effectiveness of the Tobacco Control Law in reducing smoking rates among adult males and adolescents. However, the use of new tobacco products, particularly e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products, is increasing, particularly among young people. The current legal regulatory mechanism is insufficient to prevent the use of new tobacco products, as e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products do not fall under the definition of tobacco products under the Tobacco Harm Prevention and Control Law. The Ministry of Health plans to submit a resolution in October 2024 to ban the production, sale, import, and advertising of new tobacco products, defining concepts like e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products, and outlining the responsibilities of relevant agencies and organizations.
