In New Zealand, the products when sold without any therapeutic claims and not containing any substance listed in the First Schedule of the Medicines Regulation 1984 (and amendments) are considered as cosmetics. Cosmetic products are regulated by the New Zealand Medicines and Medical Devices Safety Authority(Medsafe). Sunscreen products, however, must comply with Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 2604:2012, prepared by the Joint Technical Committee CS-042, Sunscreen Agents.
