More than forty European medical associations have launched a petition calling for the immediate revision of the EU's chemicals regulation, known as Reach, arguing that the current laws are insufficient to safeguard the health of the public.

The regulation, which went into effect in 2007 and applies to almost all chemicals, outlines the registration, evaluation, authorization, and sale restrictions for chemicals within the European Union.

In the petition introduced, groups including the European Society of Endocrinology assert that exposure to certain hormone-disrupting compounds has "widespread" health effects.
