Brazil's Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA) has launched Public Consultation No. 1400/2026 proposing amendments to food labelling regulations. The proposal would require quantitative ingredient declarations when ingredients are highlighted on labels and introduce new labelling requirements for irradiated foods. Public comments are accepted until 19 October 2026. 1.Quantitative Ingredient Declaration (QUID): Mandatory when an ingredient is highlighted through words, images, or graphics, or where required by specific food standards. Ingredient quantity must be expressed as a percentage based on the minimum amount added during production. Values ≥10% must be rounded to whole numbers; values 10% must be shown with one decimal place. The declaration must appear close to the highlighted ingredient reference. 2.Irradiated Food Labelling: Foods treated with irradiation must include a statement on the principal display panel near the product name. The statement must use a font size of at least one-third of the largest text on the label and no smaller than 6 points. The international irradiation symbol (Radura) may be used but cannot replace the mandatory statement. Irradiated ingredients used in other foods must be identified in the ingredient list. Single-ingredient products made from irradiated raw materials must also declare irradiation treatment.
