On June 17th, 2026, the World Trade Organization (WTO) circulated a notification submitted by the United States concerning a draft risk evaluation for 4,4'-(1-Methylethylidene)bis[2,6-dibromophenol] (Tetrabromobisphenol A, TBBPA) under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). The notification was issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA announced the availability of the draft risk evaluation and invited public comments to determine whether TBBPA presents an unreasonable risk to human health or the environment under its conditions of use, including risks to potentially exposed or susceptible populations. The evaluation is conducted using the best available scientific evidence and does not consider costs or other non-risk factors, consistent with TSCA requirements. Although the notification does not propose immediate regulatory restrictions, the draft risk evaluation could serve as the basis for future regulatory actions concerning the manufacture, processing, distribution, use, or disposal of TBBPA if unreasonable risks are identified. The draft risk evaluation is open for public consultation until 17 August 2026. The proposed dates of adoption and entry into force have not yet been determined.
