The European Union has temporarily suspended its countermeasures against US tariffs on steel and aluminium, covering €21 billion in exports, to facilitate negotiations. The pause, announced by EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and effective from tomorrow, mirrors a 90-day delay in reciprocal US tariffs. EU Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic is currently in Washington, DC to pursue a diplomatic resolution. While the EU remains open to talks, it warns that countermeasures will resume if discussions fail. Meanwhile, the EU continues preparations for additional trade responses. Legal acts enforcing and suspending the measures were adopted on 14 April, with the suspension set to last until 14 July 2025.
