On March 9, 2025, the Philippines launched the National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP) to address the nation's plastic waste crisis and transition towards a circular economy. Spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), NPAP is a multi-stakeholder platform involving government, private sector, civil society, academia, and development partners. The platform aims to reduce plastic pollution, promote sustainable consumption, and foster green job creation. With plastic waste reaching 2.7 million metric tons annually, NPAP will drive efforts aligned with national policies and international commitments. The partnership also emphasizes the importance of collaboration and inclusivity, aiming for a plastic-free future by 2040. The initiative is supported by key partners, including the UK, Canada, and the UNDP.
