"On April 7, 2025, Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) published the approval report for Proposal P1049, which clarifies the requirements for carbohydrate and sugar content claims on alcoholic beverages containing more than 1.15% alcohol by volume (ABV). The proposal aims to ensure that such nutrition content claims are accurate, not misleading, and consistent with existing food standards. FSANZ's assessment included a review of current standards, policy considerations, and international regulations. The proposal also considered consumer research and feedback from 82 submissions received during the consultation period. The approved variation aligns with international practices and supports informed consumer choices regarding the nutritional content of alcoholic beverages."
