"On 19 April 2025, the Czech Republic's Ministry of Agriculture received a consultation request regarding the novel food status of boron glycinate and boron bisglycinate. These compounds are chemically synthesized chelates of boron and glycine, intended for use in food supplements. They differ from traditional inorganic boron sources by being bound to glycine, enhancing bioavailability. The production involves dissolving glycine in water, heating, adding boric acid, and subsequent purification steps. The final product is a white to yellowish powder, slightly soluble in water, and free from engineered nanomaterials. The Czech authority concluded that both compounds are considered novel foods under Article 3(2)(a)(i) and (ix) of Regulation (EU) 2015/2283, as there is insufficient evidence of their significant consumption in the EU before 15 May 1997."
