"The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water has launched a public consultation on proposed Industrial Chemicals Environmental Management Standard (IChEMS) scheduling decisions covering 10 classes of industrial chemicals. IChEMS is Australia’s national framework for environmentally sound management of industrial chemicals, ensuring consistent standards for their use, storage, handling and disposal. The consultation seeks input to help refine the final environmental standards that will be published in the IChEMS Register. Indicative chemical lists—including names and CAS RNs—are provided where relevant but are not exhaustive and should not be used as definitive compliance lists.
The Minister for the Environment and Water invites submissions via the online survey by 5:00 pm, Monday 8 December 2025. The proposed scheduling decisions relate solely to industrial uses and environmental impacts, excluding health, medical and agricultural oversight. Chemicals under consideration include:
- Carbonodithioic acid O-alkyl ester sodium salts
- Lilaflot 817M (1,3-propanediamine derivatives)
- Medium and long chain alkyl sulfonates
- Ethoxylated alcohols (Groups A & B)
- Parabens
- Short-chain alkyl and aryl phthalates
- Lead(II) salts of long- and medium-chain carboxylic acids
- DBP, DEHP and DIOP
Stakeholder feedback will guide the finalisation of nationally consistent environmental controls, helping government and industry manage environmental risks associated with these chemicals. "
