The draft Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Amendment Regulations, 2025 introduces new requirements for food contact materials. Specifically, the amendments prohibit the use of poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in manufacturing food contact materials and require that materials made from polycarbonate and epoxy resins be free from Bisphenol A (BPA) and its derivatives. The public is invited to submit objections or suggestions within 60 days from the date of Gazette publication to the CEO of FSSAI via post or email (regulation@fssai.gov.in). These comments will be considered before finalizing the amendments, reinforcing food safety and compliance with evolving international standards for packaging materials.
