"The Norwegian Food Safety Authority has issued a notice establishing legally binding limit standards for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in drinking water. Under the new requirements, the combined concentration of four PFAS compounds—perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA), perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS), and perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS)—must not exceed 4 ng/L in drinking water. Previously, Norway did not have mandatory limit values for PFAS in drinking water and relied on a non-binding health advisory level of 100 ng/L for the total sum of all PFAS substances. The introduction of binding standards represents a significant tightening of regulatory controls and aligns Norway with a more precautionary approach to protecting public health from PFAS exposure."
