The European Commission has authorized the placing on the market of defatted rapeseed powder (rapeseed protein-fibre concentrate) as a novel food in the European Union through Regulation (EU) 2026/386. The regulation also amends the Union list of authorized novel foods established by Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470.
The authorization follows an application submitted on 19 August 2022 by NapiFeryn BioTech Sp. z o.o. under Regulation (EU) 2015/2283 on Novel Foods. The applicant requested the approval of rapeseed protein-fibre concentrate for use as a food ingredient in various food products intended for the general population, as well as in foods for special medical purposes and food supplements.

Dairy products and dairy alternatives

Chocolate and confectionery
Foods for special medical purposes (as defined in Regulation (EU) No 609/2013)
Food supplements (as defined in Directive 2002/46/EC)
For food supplements, the maximum permitted intake is 10 g/day for the general population above 10 years of age, while infants, young children, and children under 10 years of age are excluded.
