On December 17, 2025, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in the European Union announced highlights from the December meetings of its Committees for Risk Assessment (RAC) and Socio-Economic Analysis (SEAC), which continued the evaluation of the proposed EU-wide restriction on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The committees reached provisional conclusions on PFAS manufacturing, while SEAC also concluded its assessment of electronics and semiconductors and continued reviewing horizontal issues such as concentration limits, PFAS management plans, recycling, enforceability, and monitoring. RAC is expected to adopt its final opinion on the proposed restriction in March 2026, while SEAC plans to agree on a draft opinion that will be subject to a 60-day stakeholder consultation. In addition, RAC adopted seven harmonised classification and labelling opinions, including its first opinion under the new CLP hazard class of 4,4'-methylene bis(dibutyldithiocarbamate) “very persistent, very bioaccumulative (vPvB),” and issued an opinion on an occupational exposure limit for anthraquinone.
