"The National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT) and the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of Argentina have issued Joint Resolutions 1/2025 and 2/2025, formally expanding the Argentine Food Code (CAA) to include eleven edible flower species and maca root (Lepidium meyenii Walp.).
Under Joint Resolution 1/2025, Article 822 of the CAA is amended to authorize the marketing of eleven edible floral species. These flowers may be sold fresh, dried, or used as condiments. Among the listed species are:
• Pumpkin or squash
• Dandelion
• Azahar (orange, lemon, and citron blossom)
• Jasmine
• Calendula
Joint Resolution 2/2025 adds maca under the category “Roots and Tubers.” The update is based on Peruvian technical standards and establishes definitions and conditions for two maca products:
• Toasted maca flour – derived from dehydrated and ground maca root
• Gelatinized maca flour – produced through extrusion for use in dietary supplements, with a maximum daily intake of 1.5 grams
These incorporations provide formal regulatory frameworks for both edible flowers and maca-derived products within Argentina’s food legislation."
