"The Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA) has released Public Consultation No. 1360 on December 9, 2025, seeking stakeholder input on proposed Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for several pesticides, including propargite, difenoconazole, and other active substances. The proposal outlines new residue limits for specific food categories and aligns with Brazil’s ongoing efforts to update and harmonize national food safety standards.
Under the draft amendment, ANVISA has detailed MRLs for crops such as eggplant, rice, chili, bell pepper, okra, sugarcane, papaya, and citrus juice. These limits are intended to reflect updated toxicological assessments and agricultural usage conditions. A few highlighted proposed limits include:
1.Profenofos: 9 mg/kg for eggplant, Cornelian cherry, chili, bell pepper, and okra
2.Propiconazole: 1.5 mg/kg for rice
3.Prothioconazole: 0.01 mg/kg for sugarcane and papaya
4.Afidopyropen: 0.01 mg/kg for citrus juice
The consultation period will remain open until February 7, 2026, during which industry stakeholders, scientific institutions, and consumers may submit comments or objections. Once finalized, the new MRLs will be incorporated into Brazil’s regulatory framework governing pesticide residues in food products."
