On January 12th, 2026, China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) issued Announcement No. 1 of 2026, formally incorporating five testing methods into the “Safety Technical Specifications for Cosmetics (2015 Edition).” These include two newly added methods the “Inspection Methods for 6 Raw Materials such as Cannabidiol in Cosmetics” and the “Inspection Method for Diethylene Glycol in Cosmetics” and three revised methods: the “General Principles of Physical and Chemical Inspection Methods,” the “Inspection Methods for 23 Raw Materials such as Procainamide in Cosmetics,” and the “Inspection Methods for 124 Raw Materials such as 6? Methyl hydrocortisone in Cosmetics.” The revised General Principles will take effect on July 1st, 2026, while the other four methods will be implemented from January 1st, 2027. Before these effective dates, the NMPA encourages the use of these updated methods for cosmetic registration and filing related inspections.
