On 3 December 2025, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) concluded its November 2025 meeting of the Biocidal Products Committee (BPC), adopting four opinions on active substances and three on Union authorisations. Regarding active substances, the BPC supported the renewal of cis-tricos-9-ene (Muscalure) for product type 19 (repellents and attractants), intended for both professional and non-professional use in stables, food processing areas, and homes (evaluating authority: Austria). The Committee did not support approval of Bromochloro-5,5-dimethylimidazolidine-2,4-dione (BCDMH) for product-types 2 (disinfectants and algaecides not for direct application to humans/animals), 11 (preservatives for liquid-cooling and processing systems) and 12 (slimicides), due to a critical data gap on mutagenicity that prevented conclusions on human health risks and exclusion/substitution criteria (evaluating authority: The Netherlands). The opinion on ethanol for product-types 1, 2 and 4 was postponed until 2026. On Union authorisations, the BPC supported three biocidal product families: one releasing active chlorine from hypochlorous acid (PT 2, 4, 5; Denmark), one releasing active chlorine from sodium hypochlorite (PT 4; Austria), and one containing hydrogen peroxide (PT 2, 4; The Netherlands). Additionally, the BPC issued opinions on post-authorisation data for product families containing Permethrin/S-Methoprene (PT 18; France) and L-(+)-lactic acid (PT 2; France).
