"The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRICULTURA) of Mexico has announced a suspension of pork imports from Spain after the detection of African swine fever (ASF) in two wild boars in Cerdanyola del Vallès, Barcelona, as reported by the Official Veterinary Services (SVO) of Catalonia. This is the first case of ASF in Spain since 1994.
Mexico’s National Service for Agrifood Health, Safety and Quality (SENASICA) stated that the suspension will remain in place while authorities receive detailed information on the handling of the outbreak. The decision aims to protect Mexico’s national pork production from potential animal health risks.
Under this measure, all pork products and by-products — including hams, sausages, cured products, pork offal for human consumption, and raw materials for pet food — are prohibited from entering Mexico. The restriction applies to both commercial imports and personal products brought in by tourists, residents, or Mexican citizens."
