"On 8 December 2025, the Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) published document AS 2025 809, introducing amendments to Switzerland’s regulations governing maximum residue limits (MRLs) for contaminants in food. The updated limits will come into force on 1 January 2026.
The revision establishes new MRLs for fumonisins, zearalenone, and cadmium across selected food categories, particularly cereal-based products and sports or dietary supplements. The main changes are as follows:
Revised Maximum Residue Limits
Under the updated rules, fumonisin levels in corn flour products must not exceed 1400 µg/kg, while the limit for corn flour is set at 2000 µg/kg, with corresponding remarks of 0.3 and 0.6. For zearalenone, corn flour products are now restricted to a maximum of 200 µg/kg, and corn flour to 300 µg/kg, accompanied by remarks 0.4 and 0.01 respectively. The regulation also defines new limits for cadmium, setting a maximum of 1000 µg/kg for sports foods enriched with specific vitamins and minerals and the same 1000 µg/kg limit for dietary supplements.
The updated limits align with Switzerland’s ongoing efforts to strengthen consumer protection and ensure harmonized control of mycotoxins and heavy metals in high-risk food categories."
