The notification under Article 10.6 concerns Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda, with the Rwanda Standards Board (RSB) as the responsible authority. It introduces the Draft East African Standard DEAS 354:2025, which specifies minimum requirements for plastic containers up to 5 litres in capacity. These containers are intended for storing commodities excluding explosives, compressed gases, and radioactive materials. The standard addresses consumer safety, accurate labeling, environmental protection, and prevention of deceptive practices, while promoting trade facilitation, quality assurance, cost efficiency, and productivity. It references ISO 2859-1 for lot-by-lot sampling procedures and ISO 4787:2021 for testing volumetric capacity. The 47-page document, available in English, will enter into force six months after adoption, with the adoption date yet to be determined. Stakeholders have until 17 March 2026 to submit comments, which will be handled by RSB. The full text is accessible via RSB’s website or contact channels.
