"The WTO has circulated a notification from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda concerning a Draft East African Standard (DEAS 884:2025) that specifies a test method for determining the puncture resistance of multilayer flexible packaging materials. Developed under ICS 55.120 and managed through the Kenya Bureau of Standards, the proposal aims to support quality assessment for cans, tins, tubes and related packaging applications.

The measure seeks to improve quality requirements, harmonize regional standards, and reduce trade barriers across East African Community (EAC) member states. Notified under TBT Article 5.6.2, the draft is open for comments until 30 November 2025 (60 days from notification). Dates for adoption and entry into force will be confirmed at a later stage, with comments handled through the Kenya Bureau of Standards WTO/TBT Enquiry Point."
