Ireland’s Food Supplements (Amendment) Regulations 2026 (S.I. No. 226/2026) align the national food supplement framework with the latest amendments to Directive 2002/46/EC and reinforce enforcement measures under the Official Controls Regulation. The amendments introduce increased regulatory oversight of food supplements, extending scrutiny beyond product composition to include labelling, packaging and advertising materials. The regulations also expand official sampling and control powers, establish procedures for a second expert review of analytical results, and significantly increase penalties for non-compliance, including fines of up to €500,000 and/or imprisonment for up to two years. Food supplement businesses are expected to ensure that only authorised vitamin and mineral sources are used and that technical documentation, labelling and marketing materials are fully compliant and ready for regulatory inspection.
