Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) launched a global call for data on selected per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) ahead of its 105th meeting scheduled for November 2027 in Rome. Stakeholders have until 1 December 2026 to submit toxicological, occurrence, exposure, analytical, and food-processing data to support the evaluation of prioritized PFAS compounds.
JECFA is seeking information on toxicity, carcinogenicity, reproductive and developmental effects, human epidemiological studies, PFAS levels in food and feed, carry-over from feed to food-producing animals, analytical detection methods, and contamination control measures. The assessment will focus on a limited group of PFAS due to current data availability, with additional PFAS expected to be reviewed in future meetings. The outcome may inform future international food safety recommendations, Codex discussions, and regulatory approaches to PFAS contamination in food and feed.
