On 24 April 2026 Ministry of the Environment announced the results of a public consultation on revisions related to the treatment of "knowledge on the composition and properties of chemical substances already obtained" and the partial amendment of test methods and judgment criteria used to determine the applicability of new and monitoring chemical substances. The consultation process was conducted under the framework of the Act on the Examination of Chemical Substances and Regulation of Manufacture, etc., and followed procedures in line with Japan's Administrative Procedure Act. The draft proposal was originally published on 19 February 2026, with a public comment period open until 20 March 2026. During this period, stakeholders were invited to provide feedback on how existing knowledge of chemical substance composition and properties should be recognized and utilized in regulatory assessments, as well as on updates to testing methodologies and decision criteria. These revisions aim to improve the efficiency, clarity, and scientific robustness of chemical evaluation processes in Japan. Following the review of submitted opinions, the final results and corresponding revisions were formally announced and promulgated on 24 April 2026
