"On January 7, 2026, the White House released the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA) 2025–2030, introducing a significant shift in U.S. nutrition policy toward “real food” and nutrient-dense dietary patterns. The updated guidelines encourage Americans to prioritize whole, minimally processed foods while reducing consumption of highly processed foods, refined carbohydrates, and added sugars.

The guidance places stronger emphasis on balanced meals built around quality protein sources, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats, and signals a move away from heavy reliance on ultra-processed products. According to federal officials, the revised recommendations are intended to address rising rates of diet-related chronic diseases and to realign public health advice with evolving nutrition science.

The 2025–2030 guidelines will serve as the foundation for federal nutrition programs, including school meals and other public food assistance initiatives, and are expected to influence food reformulation strategies and dietary messaging across the United States through 2030."
