On November 7, 2025, the WTO circulated the updated East African Standard DEAS 346:2021, which harmonizes cosmetic labelling requirements across the EAC. The standard mandates clear, indelible, and non-misleading labels in English and/or the official language of the importing Partner State. Required information includes product name, use, instructions, net content, manufacturer/importer details, origin, batch number, warnings, storage conditions, dates, and a full INCI ingredient list. It also sets rules for shelf life, post-opening stability, and use of supplementary leaflets. A complete Product Information File must be available to authorities before market entry. Overall, the update enhances consumer protection and strengthens regulatory harmonization in the EAC cosmetics sector.
