"On November 06,2025, WTO circulated the notification regarding the Egyptian Standard ES 1562, titled ""Liquid Synthetic Detergents for Manual Dishwashing,"" which was officially adopted on 22 October 2025.
This notification concerns the Ministerial Decree No. 372/2025 (1 page, in Arabic), which provides producers and importers with a twelve-month transitional period to comply with the updated standard. ES 1562 covers products classified under ICS code 71.100.40 (Surface Active Agents) and outlines technical and safety requirements for liquid synthetic detergents intended for manual dishwashing.
It is important to note that this notification builds upon previous ministerial decrees: Decree No. 535/2015 (2 pages, notified in G/TBT/N/EGY/90 dated 20 August 2015) and Decree No. 499/2023 (4 pages, notified in G/TBT/N/EGY/90/Add.1 dated 11 March 2024), which mandated earlier versions of this standard. Additionally, the draft of this current standard was formerly circulated under G/TBT/N/EGY/90/Add.2 on 27 March 2025.
1)The standard aligns with international regulations and best practices, including:
A) Regulation (EC) No. 648/2004 of the European Parliament and Council on detergents, ensuring safe and environmentally compatible detergent formulations.
B) Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH) for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and Restriction of Chemicals, ensuring chemical safety and compliance.
C) Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP) on classification, labelling, and packaging of substances and mixtures, facilitating proper hazard communication.
D) JIS K 3370/2019, providing relevant industrial standards.
E) GSO 2238/2021, representing Gulf regional compliance requirements.
F) Producers and importers are advised to monitor any future amendments to the Egyptian standards, which are communicated through administrative orders published in the Official Gazette, ensuring continuous compliance with evolving regulatory requirements. This standard serves to protect consumer health, harmonize Egyptian detergent regulations with international norms, and provide clear guidance for industry compliance."
