The  WTO circulated Addendum G/TBT/N/EGY/457/Add.1, announcing that Egypt has officially adopted the national standard ES 4299 “Packaging Recommendations for Addressing Consumer Needs,” through Ministerial Decree No. 246/2025. The measure entered into force the day after its publication in the Official Gazette, and producers and importers have been granted a six-month transitional period to comply. The standard applies to general packaging and distribution requirements and is technically identical to ISO/IEC Guide 41:2018.

The addendum confirms that ES 4299 aims to ensure packaging meets consumer usability, safety, and accessibility expectations, while maintaining consistency with international best practices. The original draft was previously notified on 12 March 2024. Any future amendments to Egyptian standards will continue to be communicated through administrative orders in the Official Gazette, and the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality remains the contact point for inquiries.
