The WTO circulated Addendum G/TBT/N/EGY/200/Add.2, confirming the adoption of the updated Egyptian Standard ES 4900 “Household Synthetic Detergent Powder” through Ministerial Decree No. 246/2025. The measure will enter into force the day after its publication in the Official Gazette, while producers and importers are granted a six-month transitional period to comply. This update follows earlier related notifications from 2018 and 2025 under the same measure.

The revised ES 4900 aligns Egypt’s detergent requirements with major international regulatory frameworks, including EU Detergent Regulation (EC) No. 648/2004, REACH (EC) No. 1907/2006, CLP (EC) No. 1272/2008, and JIS K 3371/2019. The objective of the standard is to ensure higher safety, quality, and environmental compliance for household detergent powders placed on the Egyptian market.
