Egypt submitted WTO Notification G/TBT/N/EGY/557 concerning a draft national standard, ES 5648 “Protective Clothing — General Requirements,” issued by the Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Quality (EOS). The notified draft outlines general requirements for ergonomics, safety, size designation, aging, compatibility, and product marking for protective clothing, along with the information manufacturers must supply. The standard is not intended to be used alone, but in conjunction with other standards related to specific protective functions, and is technically identical to ISO 13688:2013/AMD1:2021.

The objective of the draft standard is to ensure safety, improve product quality, and support consistent market requirements for protective clothing. WTO Members are invited to provide comments within 60 days, with the deadline set for 14 December 2025. The dates of adoption and entry into force will be determined at a later stage.
