On December 30, 2025, ANVISA (National Health Surveillance Agency) issued Resolution RE No. 5,157, prohibiting all lots of the product Allulose imported by Sainte Marie Importacao e Exportacao. The ban covers the sale, distribution, import, advertising, and use of Allulose, as it is not authorized as a food ingredient in Brazil. Classified as a novel food due to no history of consumption in the country, Allulose requires prior technical and scientific evaluation by ANVISA before approval. Companies must submit documentation proving safety, absence of contaminants, and acceptable consumption levels.
