The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a nationwide recall of multiple cheese products across Canada due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a harmful pathogen that can cause listeriosis. The affected products include various brands and types of cheese, spanning shredded blends, medium cheddar, mozzarella, and other formats, which were sold at retail. The recall spans national distribution, and consumers are strongly advised not to consume, use, serve, sell, or distribute any of the listed products and to discard or return them to the point of purchase. Although no illnesses have been officially reported at the time of the announcement, Listeria contamination poses serious health risks, particularly to pregnant women, young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems, as the bacteria can cause symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and in severe cases meningitis or even death. A full list of recalled cheese products and codes is available on the CFIA recall portal.
