On January 12, 2026, the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) of China issued Announcement No. 6 of 2026 on the incorporation of 18 standard formulation and revision items into the Cosmetics Safety Technical Specifications (2015 Edition). The standards were reviewed and approved by the Director’s Meeting of the Cosmetics Standardisation Technical Committee and cover microbiological limits as well as restrictions and requirements for multiple cosmetic ingredients. The update introduces new standards for butylphenylmethylpropionaldehyde, cyclotetradimethicone, perfluorooctane sulfonic acid and its salts, and perfluorooctanoic acid and its salts, while revising limits and requirements for substances such as 1. Methylisothiazolinone 2. Salicylic acid 3. Zinc pyrithione 4. Octocrylene 5. toluene-2,5-diamine Six standards will take effect on January 1, 2027, and twelve standards on January 1, 2028, with transitional arrangements allowing existing products to be sold until the end of their shelf life.
