The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has opened a public consultation on several petitions seeking new or revised pesticide residue tolerances on food commodities. Key proposals include establishing an import tolerance of 0.5 ppm for the fungicide trifloxystrobin on avocados and increasing the existing afidopyropen tolerance on oranges from 0.15 ppm to 0.3 ppm. The EPA is also reviewing new tolerances for the fungicides cymoxanil and famoxadone on a range of crops, including leafy greens, arugula, cress, fennel, mangoes, tomatoes, peppers, root vegetables, tuberous vegetables, and shelled beans, while removing certain older crop-specific tolerances. These changes could impact pesticide residue compliance requirements for growers, food manufacturers, and importers, as well as influence agricultural trade and food safety standards in the United States. Public comments will be accepted until 15 July 2026.
