Silver Moon LP, doing business as Loards Ice Cream (San Leandro, California), voluntarily recalled all its retail-packaged ice cream products following an FDA inspection that identified significant labelling deficiencies. The inspection revealed that product labels failed to declare complete ingredient statements, resulting in the presence of undeclared major food allergens, including milk, eggs, tree nuts, peanuts, soy, and wheat. In addition, certain products contained undeclared sulfites and undeclared food colour additives, which are required to be clearly declared under U.S. food labelling regulations.
The absence of proper allergen labelling poses a serious or potentially life-threatening risk to individuals with food allergies or sensitivities. The affected products were distributed through Loards Ice Cream retail parlors across Northern California and were sold in 32-ounce paper containers and 56-ounce plastic containers.
The recall was initiated as a precautionary measure to protect public health and ensure compliance with FDA labelling requirements. Consumers who purchased the affected products are advised not to consume them and to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. As of the recall announcement, no illnesses or adverse reactions had been reported.
