"On December 15, 2025, the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) launched a consultation on market authorisation for four regulated novel foods, open to stakeholders until February 8, 2026. This consultation targets food and feed businesses across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, as well as local and port health authorities, district councils, and other interested parties. A parallel consultation is being conducted by Food Standards Scotland (FSS).

The consultation seeks views on:

1.Extension of use for Schizochytrium sp. oil rich in DHA and EPA in meat, meat products, and fishery products
2.New authorisation of 2’-fucosyllactose, 3’-Sialyllactose (3’-SL) sodium salt, and 6’-Sialyllactose (6’-SL) sodium salt, all produced using a derivative strain of Escherichia coli W (ATCC 9637)
The purpose is to gather stakeholder feedback on the proposed authorisations, labelling requirements, and any additional social, environmental, or economic factors that should be considered prior to final ministerial decisions. The FSA encourages all stakeholders to submit comments to ensure a comprehensive review of these novel food applications."
