On April 8, 2026, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a final rule modifying the start date for the submission period under the PFAS Reporting and Recordkeeping Rule pursuant to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Section 8(a)(7). The rule delays the commencement of reporting to January 31, 2027, or 60 days after the effective date of a forthcoming final rule revising the reporting requirements-whichever is earlier. The EPA retains the existing reporting duration of six months for most entities and twelve months for small manufacturers reporting exclusively as article importers. The rule does not introduce new reporting obligations but provides additional time for the Agency to review extensive public comments, finalize revisions to the reporting requirements, update guidance, and improve reporting systems. This adjustment responds to stakeholder requests for more preparation time and ensures alignment between the reporting timeline and forthcoming substantive amendments to the PFAS reporting framework. The measure is considered deregulatory, as it reduces immediate compliance burdens while maintaining the overall objective of collecting comprehensive PFAS data from manufacturers and importers since January 1, 2011.
