The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) of the United Kingdom (UK) notified the WTO Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade of a proposal to amend Great Britains mandatory classification and labelling list for hazardous chemical substances. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) plans to introduce new and revised mandatory entries covering 60 hazardous chemicals, following a regulatory review. The proposal aims to strengthen chemical safety management by ensuring consistent classification and labelling requirements across Great Britain. Key objectives include protecting human health and safety, safeguarding the environment, and supporting the effective functioning of the UK internal market. The notified document, published in January 2026, outlines the updated classifications and is supported by additional resources available through the HSE website, including the GB Mandatory Classification and Labelling List and individual agency opinions. Adoption is expected in the second quarter of 2026, with voluntary implementation beginning in Q2 2026 and mandatory compliance required by Q4 2028. Stakeholders may submit comments until 27 March 2026.
