On March 14, 2025, the European Commission initiated a public consultation on the evaluation of the Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Directives 2004/9/EC and 2004/10/EC, which set quality standards for chemical testing data. The evaluation will examine the directives’ effectiveness, efficiency, relevance, EU added value, and coherence, ensuring they continue to support mutual acceptance of test data, prevent fraudulent practices, reduce animal testing, and lower compliance costs for industry and governments. The call for evidence is open until June 6, 2025 (midnight Brussels time), allowing stakeholders to provide input on potential improvements. The Commission aims to finalize the evaluation, with planned adoption in the first quarter of 2026.
