Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) and the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to strengthen enforcement actions against the illegal trade of electronic smoking devices (DEFs), commonly known as electronic cigarettes or vapes. The partnership aims to ensure compliance with RDC 855/2024, which prohibits the manufacture, import, marketing, distribution, storage, transport, and advertising of electronic cigarettes throughout Brazil. Under the agreement, Anvisa will provide technical expertise, inspection data, and regulatory support, while the MPF will investigate identified infractions and coordinate with other oversight bodies to take legal action. The cooperation also includes joint communication and public awareness initiatives about the health risks associated with electronic smoking devices. The agreement is valid for five years, with no financial transfers between the institutions.
