On 14 October 2025, the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) announced an update to its Rolling Action Plan (RAP), adding an evaluation of 522 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) under section 74 of the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019. The evaluation, which covers PFAS already listed on the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals, will determine whether these substances are currently being introduced or used in Australia, their intended applications, and volumes of introduction. Findings will help identify which PFAS warrant further evaluation or regulatory action. As part of the process, the AICIS Executive Director will require registered companies to provide information on their PFAS importation or manufacturing activities. This initiative supports Australia’s ongoing efforts to enhance transparency, assess potential risks, and strengthen management of PFAS chemicals.
