"Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) has launched a targeted public consultation on the Regulatory Outcomes Evaluation Plan (ARR) concerning national measures that restrict the use of industrially produced trans fats in foods. The regulation significantly impacts the food production chain, influencing product formulation, ingredient choices, labeling, manufacturing processes, and inspection practices. The policy includes the ban on partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs) and the 2% maximum limit on trans fatty acids in refined oils, which is expected to deliver substantial public-health benefits. ANVISA anticipates that these measures will reduce cardiovascular disease (CVD) rates and the associated economic costs of treatment, premature mortality, and productivity losses outweighing the costs of regulatory implementation."
