"The National Administration of Drugs, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT) and the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries have approved the incorporation of dehydrated Euglena gracilis algae powder into Article 1.417 of the Argentine Food Code (CAA) for use as an ingredient in dietary supplements.
The algae powder is produced through complete fermentation of Euglena gracilis, followed by drying and pulverization. It must meet strict specifications, including ≥50% beta-glucans, ≥15% protein, 61–63% total dietary fiber, and defined maximum limits for moisture, ash, and heavy metals likeLead: 0.5 ppm,Cadmium: 0.5 ppm and Mercury: 0.05 ppm.
International regulatory precedents include approvals by EFSA (Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/1820) and ANVISA (Normative Instruction No. 28/2018). The Argentine authorities concluded that the ingredient has nutritional and physiological benefits and does not imply therapeutic claims at intended use levels.
The resolution enters into force the day after its publication in the Official Gazette."
