"The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has proposed amendments to Schedule 20 of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, updating Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for various agricultural and veterinary chemical residues in food commodities. These updates aim to maintain food safety by limiting pesticide and chemical residues consistent with good agricultural practices and protecting public health.
The proposed MRL changes include precision additions and revisions such as:
Afidopyropen on Japanese Persimmon at 0.01 mg/kg
Broflanilide on fruiting vegetables (excluding cucurbits) at 0.1 mg/kg
Difenoconazole on Chestnuts at 0.05 mg/kg
Emamectin on Ginger Root at 0.01 mg/kg
Imazamox on field peas (dry) at 0.2 mg/kg, and others.
Several previous MRL entries for crops like dry peas and beans were revised or removed according to updated risk assessments.
These limits are set to be effective immediately after gazettal and have undergone dietary exposure assessments to ensure they do not pose risks to consumers.
The APVMA invites public submissions by September 2, 2025, seeking stakeholder input on these proposed changes."
