On April 7, 2026, National Medical Products Administration announced the release of five cosmetics industry standards, including the "General Principles for Technical Requirements for Biotechnology Source Raw Materials for Cosmetics." These standards were developed by the authority and approved by the Cosmetics Standardization Technical Committee. The package includes technical requirements for biotechnology-derived raw materials, plant-derived raw materials, and specific ingredients such as Centella asiatica extract, Acetylhexapeptide-8, and Copper Tripeptide-1. The standards are issued as recommended (non-mandatory) industry standards and are scheduled to come into effect on May 1, 2027. They aim to enhance the technical framework for evaluating cosmetic raw materials, improve product safety and quality, and support innovation in the cosmetics sector. The release reflects China's continued efforts to strengthen regulatory guidance for emerging and advanced cosmetic ingredients, particularly those derived from biotechnology and natural sources.
