The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) announced key updates from the Risk Assessment Committee (RAC) and Socio-Economic Analysis Committee (SEAC) meetings, including progress on the proposed EU-wide restriction of PFAS. Both committees reached provisional conclusions for fluorinated gases, while RAC also addressed transport and energy applications. SEAC will continue discussions on these areas in June. RAC adopted 13 opinions on harmonised classification and labelling, notably classifying silver nitrate as a Category 1B reproductive toxicant and Category 2 carcinogen, and synthetic amorphous silica as a respiratory hazard (STOT RE 1). The committees also agreed on 17 RAC and six SEAC draft opinions on applications for authorisation, alongside adopting four authorisation opinions and three review reports. Discussions on medical devices, lubricants, and electronics will continue in upcoming meetings.
