On September 24, 2025, the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) has opened a six-month public consultation (closing 24 March 2026) on restricting the use of Octocrylene in cosmetics at concentrations of 0.001% w/w or higher. The restriction is being considered due to potential environmental risks. Since Octocrylene is a common UV filter in sunscreens and cosmetic products, the proposal could significantly affect the cosmetics industry.
