EU rejected the Weight Reduction Claim of Calcium Sulphate under Health Regulations

This EFSA scientific opinion evaluates a health claim application submitted by Mediconomics APS via the Competent Authority of Denmark, under Article 13(5) of Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006. The claim proposed that calcium sulphate (E516) contributes to body weight reduction. EFSA assessed the scientific substantiation, including human studies and mechanistic data, and concluded that the evidence was not sufficient to support the claim. Therefore, the health claim cannot be authorised under current EU regulations.
