On March 26, 2026, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched a public consultation on the draft opinion issued by its Committee for Socio-economic Analysis (SEAC) regarding the proposed restriction of Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) under the EU REACH Regulation. The consultation invites stakeholders to provide comments on the socio-economic impacts, sector-specific considerations, and feasibility of restricting the manufacture, placing on the market, and use of PFAS across various applications, including textiles, food contact materials, cosmetics, medical devices, and electronics. This follows earlier evaluation work by ECHA’s Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC) and ongoing assessment of restriction options submitted by several EU Member States. The proposed restriction aims to address risks posed by PFAS, which are persistent chemicals associated with environmental contamination and potential human health impacts. The consultation period will remain open until May 25, 2026, and feedback received will be used by SEAC in finalizing its opinion before a regulatory decision is taken by the European Commission and EU Member States.
